voice-please
voice-please is a framework for pinning down how your company sounds, and keeping it that way as more people and more AI tools do the writing.
What it does
Most companies know their writing sounds generic but cannot say what it should sound like instead. And most voice guidelines end up as a PDF nobody opens.
voice-please takes a different route. It turns the raw material you already have, your existing content, the voices you admire, input from your team, into working documents that both people and AI tools can follow. The set includes a voice profile (who you sound like), writing conventions (the rules), a register map (how the tone shifts for different situations), an audience language bank (the words your customers actually use), and an AI voice configuration (so your AI tools stop sounding like default ChatGPT).
How it works
voice-please works in three phases:
- Discover: it reviews your existing content and interviews you for reference voices and anti-references. The useful insight here is that most founders cannot describe their ideal voice from a blank page, but they can immediately name companies and people whose writing feels right. The framework starts there.
- Author: it turns that into the structured voice documents, the profile, conventions, register map, and language bank.
- Encode: it translates the voice into configurations your AI tools can read directly, so on-brand writing stops depending on one person catching every draft.
After that it maintains the system: auditing new content against it, and refreshing it when the company changes.
voice-please is also clear about where a person helps. You can run every step yourself and get useful output. But the move from "professional but approachable" to a genuinely distinctive voice usually takes someone with taste pushing past the first answer, and the framework says so plainly.
Who it's for
- Founders and teams whose content sounds generic and who cannot say why
- Content leads who need voice consistency to scale beyond one person's instinct
- Anyone using AI for content who wants output that sounds like their company
Using it without writing code
You do not need to be a developer to use voice-please, and you do not need to be comfortable with GitHub. The framework is a set of plain-language instructions that an AI assistant reads and works from. Your part is the conversation.
The quickest way in is the "Open in Claude" button on this page. It hands Claude a short brief on voice-please and leaves room for you to describe your own situation, so you can talk through the fit before committing to anything.
To run the framework itself, you open the repository with Claude Code, Anthropic's assistant that works directly with files, and tell it what you need in ordinary sentences, like "our writing sounds generic, help us figure out our voice." It handles setup the first time and walks you through the rest. If any of that feels unfamiliar, it is a good thing to bring to a first conversation.
